5 Product Swaps to Make This Summer
Say hello to summer! We’re so excited to finally welcome the warm weather. While you’re dusting off your sandals and bikini, take a moment to look at your beauty products. When the seasons change, so do the needs of your hair and skin. That means it’s time to make a few swaps!
Swap: Foundation for BB Cream
If you still want to even out your complexion but don’t want products sweating off your face, choose a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. It will help you get that “flawless” finish without feeling heavy and melting into creases. BB creams are also multi-functional products. Most of them include anti-aging, skin care ingredients like Vitamin A, E and C, as well as moisturizing elements like hyaluronic acid and glycerin.
Swap: Lip Gloss/Lipstick for Tinted Lip Balm
When it’s hot and sweaty outside, the last thing you want to worry about is super-pigmented matte lipstick. Applying and touching up lipstick throughout the day is a lot of maintenance. Not to mention it can easily smear with sweat. Lip gloss could be a better option, though many formulas are thick and sticky. For low-maintenance, healthy lips, opt for a tinted lip balm. It’ll add a touch of color while also nourishing your lips and even adding sun protection.
Swap: Smoothing Hair Cream for Dry Oil
Need to control that frizz? Dry oil tames hair without weighing it down like a cream smoothing product. Most hair creams include silicones, which can be heavy on the hair. When you’re already battling heat and/or humidity, you don’t need a thick product adding to your hair struggles. Whether you want to spray argan oil into your locks or feel like taking a little extra time to massage in coconut dry oil, there’s a formulation out there for you.
Swap: Moisturizer with SPF for Non-Greasy Sunscreen
Moisturizers with added SPF are great. However, they usually only include a low-grade SPF like 15 or 20. When the rays of the sun are the most intense, it’s time to start wearing actual sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. Unlike days of the past, sunscreen now comes in lightweight, non-greasy formulas. You can wear it underneath your makeup and moisturizer to fully protect your skin from sunburn.
Swap: Thick, Rich Creams for Lightweight Moisturizers
During cold months there’s nothing like slathering a thick cream all over your dry skin. During summertime, you probably don’t need such a rich formulation. When you’re spending time outside and sweating more than usual, you don’t want a thick lotion making you feel even greasier. Ditch the thick cream and opt for a lightweight moisturizer or serum. They’ll give you the hydration you need without feeling thick and heavy on the skin.
