WHY DOUGLAS J
What you get from day one.
The kit alone is worth it.
You graduate with an industry-leading kit stocked with real, professional-grade tools—the kind working stylists actually use behind the chair. It’s yours from the first day of class.
More time on the floor.
Our clinic floors are among the busiest in every market we operate. More real clients means more practice, more confidence, and more skill before you ever walk out the door as a graduate.
Your network starts here.
Guest speakers, industry events, and career fairs put you in the room with working pros before you graduate. In the beauty industry, who you know matters as much as what you know.
Business skills built in.
Want to own your own salon someday? Our curriculum includes Qnity Money EDU, real entrepreneurship and financial literacy training most cosmetology programs don’t offer at all. Every program includes career placement support.
Outcomes That Speak for Themselves
92% of students graduate. 90%+ pass their licensure exam. You won’t just leave with a credential—you’ll leave ready. Career placement support support is built into every program.
Real Clients from Early On
You move from the classroom to the clinic floor faster than you’d expect, working with actual guests supervised by licensed educators. That hands-on repetition is what builds real skill.
FINANCIAL AID
Beauty school doesn’t have to break the bank.
Over 50% of Douglas J students use some form of financial aid—grants, scholarships, or loans. A financial aid coordinator is available for every campus.

FAQ
Good questions. Real answers.
How much does the cosmetology program actually cost?
Our programs cost 74% less than the average college tuition, and most students qualify for some form of financial aid on top of that.
How long does it take to get licensed?
Program length depends on the path you choose:
Esthiology: 750 hours (as little as 22 weeks)
Cosmetology: 1,500 hours (approximately 11–14 months)
Barbering: 1,500–1,800 hours depending on location (as little as 13 months)
Do I need experience before I start?
Not at all. Every program starts with the fundamentals before moving into hands-on, real-client training under licensed educators.
What does job placement support look like?
While employment is not guaranteed, Douglas J Institute provides career support services, including:
- Resume building & interview preparation
