Helping Hands: Douglas J Aveda Institute in the Community
At Douglas J Aveda Institute, we believe in working for the greater good for everyone around us. That’s why we are heavily involved with our surrounding communities. Our students and staff are big supporters of our community involvement, and they inspire us to get more and more involved every year. Here are a few of the things that you can find us doing:
- Complimentary Haircuts and Blowouts
- The 3-Day: Massage to Breast Cancer Survivors
- Makeovers for Cancer Patients
- Haircuts for Homeless Veterans
- Manicures for Seniors
- Charitable Fashion Shows
We are so proud of our students and their dedication to get involved in the community. Here are some of the exciting projects we’ve had the opportunity to participate in last year.
Bringing Glamour Day Back to Ann Arbor
The Douglas J Aveda Institute in Ann Arbor was able to partner with the Craniofacial Anomalies and Cleft Palate division of Mott’s Children’s Hospital for the fifth year in a row. The beautiful young women who are patients at this hospital came to our salon for a day to visit with our students and receive makeovers. We love watching the girls smile every year when they get the pampering they deserve!
Knoxville Hits the Catwalk for Water
On May 6, 2018 our Knoxville location held The Catwalk for Water Fashion Show. The models wore clothing made from recycled and repurposed material and all the proceeds went to the Tennessee Clean Water Network, an organization dedicated to providing clean water to the people of Tennessee. Helping our world become more eco-friendly is a cause close to our hearts, so we were extremely proud to contribute to this amazing project.
East Lansing Students Stand Down for Homeless Veterans
On May 23, 2018 our East Lansing campus had the privilege of providing haircuts to veterans who were homeless at the time. We are so grateful for what our veterans have done for us, so we are always honored when we can give something back to them. With our students’ hard work and dedication, we were able to provide 130 haircuts to veterans in just three hours.
WHY WE DO IT
The beauty and wellness industries are all about helping others. Cosmetologists, estheticians and massage therapists alike are all driven by their passion for helping others feel better or more confident. We believe this starts at home.
As we help make a difference locally, we know we can make a difference, over time, to communities much further than our surrounding areas. With campuses in Tennessee, Illinois and Michigan, we are confident that we can make a positive, long-lasting impact.
Being kind to each other and the Earth is important to us and that’s why we use the Aveda brand. Their products are created with beauty, wellness, and a positive influence on the environment in mind. Aveda is cruelty free and never tests, or asks others to test, on animals. The Aveda mission reflects our goals perfectly: “Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in. From the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. With Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.”
