Here are a few things to keep in mind while you transfer, and how to transfer to Douglas J Institute!

We understand that transferring schools can be stressful. Don’t let moving or changing disrupt your goals. It can be discouraging to have to enroll at another school, but it’s worth it to chase your dreams!
Be Patient
The process might take some time. Don’t give up. Take a beat and remember that you’re doing this to invest in yourself and your future. It’s worth the wait if pursuing a future in the beauty industry is truly what you love!
Find a Friend or Two
During this time you’re going to want support from your family and friends. Pick a buddy or two to help you during the transition. It’s even better if you find a friend who is transferring to the same new school! This way you can be prepared for the journey ahead with a hand to hold and a shoulder to lean on.
Do Your Due Diligence
Don’t be lazy when it comes to doing your due diligence in research and preparation for transferring. You’ll want to get all of your affairs in order to get started on the right foot in your new school. Do your research to find the school that best meets your needs, gather your personal information regarding your schooling and financial aid or assistance and be ready to talk to someone about transferring to your school of choice.

Apply
Get in touch with us! We want to make sure we’re a match. Call your nearest Douglas J Institute location to schedule a tour. During this time you’ll speak with our admissions team and even our educators. This is the perfect time to ask all of the questions you have about our programs, our culture and anything else!
Get Your Transcripts
You’ll need to have your educational transcripts from your last school on hand for your tour. It is also helpful if you bring any info you have like your FSA ID regarding financial aid or scholarships. Your transcripts will be reviewed by the Director of Education, and they will determine what hours and training is transferable. Our goal is that your previous education helps you succeed throughout our program and after graduation.
Talk About Hours
While we’re not going to say we accept ALL hours from ALL schools, we do look forward to helping any and all students where we can. We want to help students complete their education with a support system who truly wants to see them succeed.
We look to accept as many hours as we can that align with our program, whether the hours are coming from another cosmetology school or a vocational school. This process is always done on an individual basis. We want to properly place you into our program so there is not an educational gap.
Talk About Financial Aid
If you had financial aid at your old school, our Financial Aid team will take a look at what you have already drawn on and put together a package based on what you still have available. This means that you’ll need to tap a pro to help you get these things together, and we can help!
Set Your Goal
Speak with our Admissions team to set your goals. What are you looking to do after graduation and into your future? Our team can help you get on track to what you’re dreaming of. All students are unique, and we work with you to help with your individual roadblocks. We even our students provide help with building resumes and mock interviews so that they can be prepared for the road ahead.
