Knoxville Hits the Catwalk for Water
In May the Douglas J Aveda Institute Knoxville location had the privilege to host an inspiring event. The Catwalk For Water Fashion Show was held on May 6, 2018 and had an amazing turn out! Check out how Douglas J Aveda Institute Knoxville is making a difference in our local community!
OMG What Were They Wearing?
The models hit the Relix Variety Theatre catwalk wearing clothing fashioned from recycled and repurposed materials. The looks featured upcycled elements from bags, paper, tin foil, cardboard and even food wrappers. Each piece was unique, edgy and fantastical. The hair, makeup and styles were all avant garde and something straight from a haute couture magazine.
The hair and makeup for all the models was dreamed up and executed by Douglas J Aveda Institute Knoxville students. Not only was this a chance for our school population to give back but they also had the opportunity to show off their skills and passions.
Who Did This Event Support?
The proceeds from this event, a grand total of $2,700, went straight to the Tennessee Clean Water Network (TCWN). The organization protects and provides water to the people of Tennessee. They bring clean drinking water to children and actively strive to advance water quality by working with the law to change policies.
Clean water is something that is not only near and dear to the heart of the Douglas J family but to the Aveda network itself. Beginning in 1999, the network has raised more than $56 million to support organizations and foundations that affect environmental change. More than $50 million has been dedicated to supporting projects that protect clean water in our surrounding communities and throughout the world since 2007. Over 230 people made their way to this fashion show and silent auction. People from the local community, beauty community and the Douglas J family enjoyed the fashion and fun while making a difference. Even local news stations and writers joined us for an evening of giving back and supporting the efforts to make clean water available to people throughout Tennessee.
Why We Do It
We don’t have to give back to our local communities, we want to. This was not the first time, and it won’t be the last time you catch our students participating in events that make waves. There is no better way to thank the surrounding population for all they have done for us and our students than to give back. The beauty community has a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Through helping guests realize their inner beauty to helping protect clean water, the beauty industry impacts people every day. Douglas J Aveda Institute realizes how much we can contribute to change the world for the better.
