How Long is Cosmetology School in Michigan?
The short answer is 1,500 hours. We can’t speak for any other institution, but at Douglas J Institutes in Michigan, you can complete our cosmetology program in as little as 11 months during our daytime program, and as little as 14 months in our evening program at any of our four campuses.
What about Esthiology and Barber School?
At Douglas J Institute in Michigan, the program lengths for Esthiology, Massage Therapy, and Barber School are as follows:
- Esthiology: The program is 700 hours long. The day program can be completed in as little as 5.5 months, while the evening program can be completed in 7.5 months.
- Barbering: The barber program is the longest, spanning over 12 months with a full-time 1,800-hour curriculum.

How do I pay for this?
Because all Douglas J schools are accredited beauty school programs, you can get the support you need to pay for beauty school. The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs oversees the licensure of Michigan cosmetologists, ensuring that professionals meet certain standards to protect both clients and practitioners.
